At any given time, up to 1,200 inmates are locked up in the Sonoma County jails. Two facilities serve the county. The North County Detention Facility, located five miles north of Santa Rosa at 2254 Ordinance Road, can house 200 inmates assigned to the work crew.

Most inmates are booked into the Main Adult Detention Facility, located at 277 Ventura Avenue in the Hall of Justice Complex. The facility can hold up to 790 inmates. The jail holds inmates arrested in all nine of the incorporated cities including Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Windsor, Healdsburg, Sonoma, Sebastopol, Cloverdale and Cotati.
