San Bernardino County is the largest county in size in the United States and one of the few counties in the country that is adjacent to eight other counties.
There are three correctional facilities in the county. The oldest, Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, opened in 1960 and is mainly used to house people who have been sentenced. The Central Detention Center was opened in 1971 and houses federal inmates. Most people are sent to the West Valley Detention Center, located in Rancho Cucamonga, which is the largest facility. It opened in 1991. Inmates are also processed through the Central Detention Center at 630 East Rialto Ave.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office accepts bail bonds to release an inmate 24 hours a day. The jail only accepts bonds from licensed bail bond agents.
