Kern County is home to Bakersfield, a California city immortalized by country crooner Buck Owens and most recently Dwight Yokam. The Kern County Sheriff’s Department oversees four county jail facilities with an average jail population of 2,500 inmates a day.
Those facilities are:
- Central Receiving Facility—the primary receiving facility for those arrested in Bakersfield.
- The Lerdo Complex—this facility has three separate divisions which hold inmates of high and low security levels
- Mojave Jail—this jail receives inmates arrested in the Mojave area
- Ridgecrest Jail—this jail receives inmates arrested in the Ridgecrest area.
